INNOVATION IN RAIL TRANSPORTATION

What is Innovation?
Innovation basically refers to renewing, creating or changing more effective processes, products or ways of doing things. In logistics, innovation is the addition something to the existing items into new products. For example, chocolate biscuits we innovate to become peanut chocolate biscuits. We just only add peanut in the biscuits.

Innovation Process
We have six innovation processes.

a) Set innovation objective.
    > To make the new product and want to do some of the improvement the existing of the product.
    > It also can make the reduction of the labor cost.
    > It can improved flexibility for the manufacturing.
    > It also have the potential in the technological for protect the environment.
    > We can easy to compete with other country.
    > It also can be a consistent performance.

b) Source ideas.
    > Get an idea of internet resources and other sources.
    > Create new ideas for products.

c) Identify highest potential ideas.
    > Collect all the ideas for new products.
    > Select good idea.

d) Evaluate and select highest potential ideas.
    > How to evaluate ideas?
       # Organizational innovation is not just about generating creative ideas. Most of the ideas need to be identify to choose which one can be a successful innovation. There for it's need to be evaluate to reduce a process of rejecting or failure in deciding on which one that have potential and which one that are less favour of potential.

    > There are many solution that can help in choosing the best and the innovation that are really
will work.
       # Identify the ideas that are most likely to succeed as innovation.
       # Ensure that the ideas are reviewed by people with the appropriate expertise necessary (Understand and what might go wrong).
       # Need to make sure the budget are around the limitation.
       # Improve the idea by identifying potential implementation problems and preparing suitable actions to overcome those problems.

   > The Method
       # Pass-Fail evaluation. - This criterion might be related to budget, time-frames, fit with culture or viability.
       # Evaluation matrix. - Experts compare an idea with a set of criteria.
       # SWOT analysis. - Scoring system in which reviewers give 0 to 5 point each fir strength and opportunities and takes away 0 to 5 point each for weaknesses and threats.
       # Idea development.  - Once an idea passes these initial hurdles, it may be ready for implementation or it may require more detail testing.
       # Criticism versus improvement. - Creative ideas tend to be the riskiest.
       # Evaluation teams. - Performed by a team of people with relevant expertise
       # Evaluator agendas and prejudices. - A particular benefit to having teams review ideas is that while individual evaluators are prejudiced, a varied team is likely to cancel such prejudices out.

e) Execute on ideas.
     > The innovation become not successful because the company was unfamiliar market and channels.
     > It also can develop the different of the manufacturing for the company to increase more product.
     > It also can affect the marketing process it will be the efficient and effective of the execution.
     > They also must know how to manage the unknown or known risk.
     > To develop news ideas actually not confirm whether the new ideas was balance with the local resource.
     > Effect the company not successful because company not have the enough cost to generate the new ideas.
     > Innovation also is the try and error to get the better result.

f) Measure results.
     > When finished all the steps, make smart decisions for new products.

Example:
We give you example " railroad "
During the colonial period construction purposes railway was to carry lead ore from the mining area and the port.

Some of states that are have rail systems are :
> GEMAS,NEGERI SEMBILAN - a railway intersection of the West Coast and the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia.
> TUMPAT - be a train terminal East Coast of Malaysia.
> SABAH - a railway track connecting Tanjung Aru to Tenom and just concentrated on the West Coast  of Sabah.
> There is no rail transportation in Terengganu and Sarawak.

Benefits of Rail Transport
> can transporting goods and carries passengers.
> can connect people in the interior to urban areas.
> can develop the interior economy.

Malaysia's Transport Improvement
Integrated rail service consists of commuter light rapid transit as STAR-LRT, PUTRA-LRT, KL-MONOREL and ERL(Express Rail Line). This service was introduced to reduce traffic congestion, shorten travel time, air pollution can be reduced. Now, electrified double tracking railway was lengthened to Rawang and Ipoh.

Innovation in Rail Transportation
The smarter rail in transportation has been build in our country. For the example it want to do a double rail. It will make the easier to move the goods from the one place and to another places. It also can increase speed of rail.
